Calculate the Dilution Required To Prepare a Working Solution of Your Antibody

The dilution calculator is a useful tool which allows you to calculate how to dilute a stock solution of antibody to a known concentration. Enter C1, C2 and V2 to calculate V1.

The Dilution Calculator Equation

The dilution calculator is based on the following equation:

Concentration(start) x Volume(start) = Concentration(final) x Volume(final)

This is the C1V1 = C2V2 equation.

An Example of a Dilution Calculation Using the Dilution Calculator

You received an antibody at a stock concentration of 10 mg/ml. You have five mice to inject with 200 Āµg per mouse. You want to inject each mouse with a 200 ĀµL injection volume. This means you will need 1,000 Āµg in 1,000 ĀµL (1 milliliter of a 1 mg/ml solution).

Using the equation C1V1 = C2V2, where C1= 10 mg/ml, C2= 1 mg/ml, V2= 1 ml and V1 is the unknown:

  1. Enter 10 in the Concentration (start) box and select the correct unit (mg/ml).
  2. Enter 1 in the Concentration (final) box and select the correct unit (mg/ml).
  3. Enter 1,000 in the Volume (final) box and select the correct unit (microliter).
  4. Press calculate.
  5. The answer of 100 microliter (0.1 ml) appears in the Volume (start) box.

How do I dilute my antibody to a working concentration?Ā

We recommend diluting our antibodies in theā€ÆInVivoPure dilution buffer matching the pH that the antibody is supplied in. The recommendedā€ÆInVivoPure dilution buffer for each antibody is listed on each product page. In the absence of the recommendedā€ÆInVivoPure dilution buffer, sterile 1x PBS matching the exact pH of the antibody formulation can be used. It is important to match the pH of the dilution buffer to the antibody solution to avoid aggregation.Ā

When diluting we recommend using cold buffer and maintaining sterility by working in a biological safety cabinet and using sterile pipet tips, tubes, syringes, and buffers.Ā
