About the Prouty

It is a two-day athletic event that raises funds to benefit Dartmouth-Hitchcock Norris Cotton Cancer Center (NCCC), one of 49 National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers in the country, and the only one in northern New England.

The Proutyā„¢ began in 1982 when four NCCC nurses, inspired by the courage of their patient, Audrey Prouty, committed to cycling 100 miles through the White Mountains of New Hampshire.

Nearly 90 cents of every dollar raised stays at Norris Cotton Cancer Center to fundĀ cancer researchĀ seeking better ways to diagnose, treat, and prevent cancer. Research conducted here makes a difference in the lives of cancer patients all over the world. Money raised also fundsĀ patient supportive servicesĀ that help ease the way for patients and families struggling with cancer.

As founding nurse Patty Carney says, ā€œEveryone knows an Audrey Prouty.ā€

Our COO originally signed up for the 50 mile cycling route. He announced that if our team, Prouty Animals, reach our goal ofĀ  $30,000 coupled with 30 total members, that he would switch to the 100 mile route. Little did he know these goals would be shattered within 2 weeks! Thanks Tim!
