Product Description
Recombinant human GDF-15 protein (growth differentiation factor 15) is a distant, divergent member of the TGF-β superfamily and an important biomarker of cellular stress, with circulating serum levels linked to cancer, cardiovascular disease, obesity and metabolic disease. Unlike most TGF-β family members that activate SMAD signaling, GDF-15 signals through the GRAL receptor and co-receptor RET, driving RET phosphorylation and downstream ERK and AKT pathway activation. Because commercial mammalian-expressed GDF-15 is frequently contaminated with trace TGF-β and related proteins that produce misleading results at picomolar to femtomolar EC50s, this recombinant GDF-15 is produced in E. coli with no animal products in culture or purification and is validated with a well-characterized SMAD2/3 activation assay to confirm the absence of SMAD signaling, ensuring high-purity, contamination-free performance for signaling and metabolic research.
This protein is optimized for in vivo and functional applications: low-endotoxin, tag-free, and carrier-free, supporting reproducible performance in demanding preclinical and bioactivity studies.
Species reactivity: human. Species similarity: mouse - 67%, rat - 66%, bovine - 66%, porcine - 67%.
